DoneDeal - Negotiation Game

DoneDeal is a business-to-business sales negotiation game that allows students to apply negotiation principles and strategies learned in class to a real-life scenario.

Students are broken into an even number of teams of buyers and sellers and must complete a negotiation for the sale and purchase of a fleet of cargo ships.  Each team is given a confidential mandate from their board of directors related to the firm's expected outcomes.

Student teams can be evaluated based on their ability to complete a successful transaction, on the quality of the deal negotiated for their firm, or the quality of the relationship they were able to establish during the negotiation for future business.  Class results can be easily downloaded to Excel for grading purposes.

Key team decisions include:

  • Ship size, hull type, quantity, and delivery schedule
  • Level of navigation and safety technology
  • Financing
  • Fleet maintenance services
  • Crew training services
  • Extended warranties
  • Future purchase guarantees

Each "team" can include a single student or multiple students, and teams do not have to be the same size, so the game works for any size class.

Instructor effort is minimal. Games can be setup in under 5 minutes in the Instructor portal and then run autonomously.  Instructors only need to decide on the team structure for the game, ensuring an even number of teams is created.
